Hormone Replacement Therapy; a Treatment Used to Relieve Symptoms of Menopause

  Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), or postmenopausal hormone therapy or menopausal hormone therapy, is a form of hormone therapy used to treat physical symptoms associated with the female menopause, including hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Common treatments include estrogen and progesterone, which are commonly prescribed by physicians. When these two hormones fail to provide a woman with enough estrogen and/or progesterone, she may seek alternative treatment, such as hormone replacement therapy. HRT has been effective in helping women suffering from menopausal symptoms and reduces many of these symptoms. Hormone Replacement Therapy can be used as a preventative measure to ward off symptoms associated with the menopause such as night sweats and vaginal dryness. However, this form of treatment should not be used as a way to make the symptoms go away.
