Use of Peripheral Vascular Devices Rapidly Increases When It Comes To Treating Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases

  When it comes to treating patients with cardiovascular diseases, the use of peripheral vascular devices (i.e., stents and catheters) has rapidly increased over the last decade or so. According to Eurostat, the standardized death rate for cerebrovascular diseases in Bulgaria in 2017 was 7.1 times as high as that in France in 2016 and 45 000 heart bypasses were conducted in Germany in 2018. While stents have been primarily used as a means of reducing the pressure on the coronary arteries, catheters have also been approved as a means of reducing excessive peripheral blood flow (which in turn may result in a decreased risk of developing cardiac complications). Additionally, other Peripheral Vascular Devices such as angioplasty and balloon catheters are increasingly being used to treat conditions other than those directly related to the heart, such as varicose veins and retinopathy.
