Polyphenol is Naturally Occurring Organic Compounds That Contain Multiple Phenol Units
Polyphenol |
Polyphenol is a pigment that various flowers,
fruits, and vegetables contain and is present in many plants. Antioxidant
action is exhibited by polyphenols. There is growing evidence that polyphenols,
which are common micronutrients in our diet, may help prevent degenerative
illnesses including cancer and cardiovascular disease. The bioavailability of
polyphenols and the quantity taken both affect how they affect health. For each
class of polyphenols, estimates of dietary intakes are provided.
The mechanisms of plasma transport, methylation,
glucuronidation, and sulfation in the intestine and liver, as well as excretion
in the bile and urine, are also discussed. The various Polyphenol pharmacokinetic data are compared.
Studies on circulating metabolite identification, cellular uptake,
intracellular metabolism with potential deconjugation, biological
characteristics of the conjugated metabolite, and selective accumulation in
some target organs are included. Last but not least, bioavailability tends to
vary significantly among the different polyphenols, and the ones that are most
prevalent in our diets may not always have the best bioavailability profiles.
We can determine which dietary Polyphenol is most likely to have beneficial health effects by
thoroughly understanding the bioavailability of the several varieties. Researchers
and food producers have developed a growing interest in polyphenols over the past
ten years. The main drivers of this interest are the growing understanding of Polyphenols antioxidant properties,
their abundance in our diet, and their potential for preventing a range of
conditions brought on by oxidative stress, including cancer, cardiovascular
disease, and neurodegenerative disorders (Scalbert A, Manach C, Morand C,
Rémésy C, Jime'nez L. Crit Rev Food Sci Nutr, in press). In addition, a variety
of enzymes and cell receptors are modulated by polyphenols, the active
ingredients present in many therapeutic plants. In this way, polyphenols have
various other distinct biological activities that are yet not fully known, in
addition to their antioxidant capabilities.
