Kidney Dialysis Equipment Is One Of The Most Expensive Medical Devices
Kidney Dialysis Equipment |
The kidney serves many important
functions in our lives, including blood filtration, blood pressure regulation,
the production of hormones that aid in the production of red blood cells, bone
health, and many more. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disease condition that
affects the patient's quality of life due to improper body functioning, which
can lead to a variety of other diseases. Kidney dialysis is the preferred mode
of treatment for severe conditions (such as end-stage CKD) that necessitate
either transplantation or regular dialysis. The damage is usually irreversible
and can result in life-threatening health issues; therefore, a kidney
transplant is recommended to alleviate such problems. Transplantation is very
difficult because it requires kidney donors with same blood group as patients
to maintain the compatibility of the transplant with the other vital organs in
the body.
One of the major factors expected
to support Kidney
Dialysis Equipment Demand is the increasing prevalence of CKD in
the geriatric population. A significant number of elderly people are at risk of
developing kidney failure. According to the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI) in 2014, the prevalence of CKD in the Asia Pacific region
among females aged 18-39 years is around 18.0%, and it is around 24.2% in the
female population aged 60-70 years.
Geriatrics are more susceptible
to various diseases due to decreased immunity and other comorbid disease
conditions. Diabetes mellitus is a very common disorder that can lead to a
variety of other health problems. Kidney failure is a common health condition
associated with diabetes. Diabetic patients who are not properly treated may
develop abnormal kidney function, and in some cases, the organ may fail
completely. Diabetes is becoming more common, which may increase the likelihood
of developing CKD.
The rising prevalence of kidney
disease is expected to drive demand for dialysis equipment, encouraging
manufacturers to introduce new products. For example, Fresenius Medical Care
introduced the 4008A dialysis machine in January 2019. Furthermore, rising
demand for home care has prompted manufacturers to concentrate on developing
new and innovative dialysis equipment. CVS Health Corporation, for example,
began clinical trials of its HemoCare Hemodialysis System, a dialysis machine
developed in collaboration with Segway designer Dean Kamen, in July 2019. The
dialysis machine was created for use in home care settings.
