Biodefense Is Used In Conjunction With Biowar Or Bioterrorism, And Is Generally Considered As A Military Or Emergency Response Term

Biodefense

The use of medical or military measures to protect individuals from bioterrorism, including interventions such as drugs and vaccinations, as well as research and public health preparations to counter biological attacks, is referred to as biodefense. Several bioscience laboratories, agricultural managers, customs agents, and other parties have implemented a variety of processes and systems to prevent the use of dangerous pathogens and toxins, such as the imposition of regulations on pathogen research or the enhancement of contingency plans in the event of a hostile disease outbreak.

The intentional release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs with the intent of causing illness or death is referred to as a bioterrorism attack. Considering recent natural epidemics (severe acute respiratory syndrome [SARS] and avian influenza) and biological attacks (2001 anthrax attack in the United States), two types of epidemics specific to biological attacks can be identified: the epidemic of infectious disease and the epidemic of fear and panic.

The 2001 anthrax bioterrorism attack in the United States revealed the true extent of the fear and panic epidemic when letters containing Bacillus anthracis were sent within the country. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 22 people were diagnosed with B. anthracis infection, five of whom died, and over 32,000 people were treated with antibiotics, all while a massive panic and fear epidemic gripped the entire United States.

According to Coherent Market Insights, The global Biodefense Market is estimated to be valued at US$ 12.2 Bn in 2021, and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 4.8% over the forecast period (2021-2028).

The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in various countries around the world have had an impact on the financial status of businesses in all industries, including the private healthcare sector. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the entire healthcare supply chain, owing to strict lockdown in several regions. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a three-pronged impact on the global economy: 1) by directly affecting production and demand; 2) by disrupting distribution channels; and 3) by having a financial impact on companies and financial markets. Many countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore, are experiencing transportation and distribution issues with healthcare products.

Biodefense refers to actions taken to restore biosecurity to a group of organisms that are or may be vulnerable to biological threats or infectious diseases. Biodefense is a military or emergency response term that is frequently discussed in the context of biowar or bioterrorism. Biodefense is used to protect two distinct populations: civilian non-combatant and military combatant (troops in the field). Water and food supply protection is frequently a critical component of biodefense.
