Medical Nutrition Therapy is a result-driven clinical way of treating several chronic diseases using a personalized diet plan

In June 2021, the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition introduced the Medical Nutrition Equity Act 2021 to detect the genetic metabolic disorder in adults and children of the U.S. Medical nutrition therapy or MNT is an important element of successful diabetes management and lifelong diet education. Medical nutrition therapy is defined as a nutrition-based intervention provided by a qualified dietitian. The dietitian provides support, guidance and education in a menu-driven program of nutrition appropriate to your individualized needs and goals. The program consists of a meal plan that meets the nutritional needs of people with diabetes; this plan is supported by both the physician and the patient.

The purpose of this type of program is to teach patients and their caregivers the proper foods to eat to maintain healthy bodies. Medical Nutrition therapy can be tailored to meet the needs of people with varying degrees of disease; this includes those with type II diabetes. Since there are specific foods that are beneficial for certain groups of people, there are specific foods that should not be eaten by those who have certain diseases or conditions. For instance, foods that are high in fat and sugar are not recommended for those with type II diabetes, but other foods may be safe for them.

Many people with diabetes choose to participate in Medical Nutrition therapy since they are interested in losing weight, improving their health, or preventing further disease. Medical nutrition therapy can teach patients how to select appropriate foods to eat and maintain a healthy body weight. Medical nutrition therapy can also be used in conjunction with other forms of therapy such as Counseling Operative Therapy or Holistic Medicine. Through comprehensive understanding of it and its effectiveness, patients can learn to control their disease through a well-balanced diet and lifestyle and can enjoy a long and healthy life.
