Isoprene Monomer Market Is Growing with Rapid Growth of the Automotive Industry

Isoprene is the monomer of natural rubber and a common structure motif to the isoprenoids, a large class of other naturally occurring compounds. It is produced by many animals and plants and its polymers are the main component of natural rubber. Isoprene monomer is widely used to manufacture plastics, synthetic rubber, and a variety of other chemicals. Moreover, it is used to manufacture various copolymers, such as butadiene, isobutylene, and styrene, among others. It is also used in the production of sports equipment, sponge, medical equipment, electric wire and cable, conveyer belt, etc. Isoprene monomer is extensively used in the manufacturing of polyisoprene, synthetic rubber, driving the growth of the isoprene monomer market.

Therefore, with the increasing demand for natural or synthetic rubber, the demand for Isoprene Monomer Market is also increasing rapidly. In the recent past, the production of synthetic rubber has increased considerably. China has become the world's largest producer, consumer and importer of synthetic rubber in recent years. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC World), in 2019, the top importers of synthetic rubber were China (US$ 6.42 billion), United States (US$ 1.51 billion), Germany (US$ 1.21 billion), Malaysia (US$ 1.19 billion), and Thailand (US$ 1.04 billion). Synthetic rubber can be used in clutches, tires, conveyor belts, engine bearings, industrial goods, seals for drinking water.

Among the most important synthetic rubbers are styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, neoprene, butyl rubber, the polysulfide rubbers, and the silicones. There is an increasing demand for synthetic rubber across the automotive industry. Silicone rubber is used in a wide range of vehicle interiors and exteriors, and is becoming the material of choice to provide solutions for sealing, insulating, and protecting a host of interiors applications. Thus, with the rapid growth of the automotive industry, the demand for synthetic rubber is also increasing. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India was the world's fifth largest manufacturer of cars and seventh largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in 2019.

Moreover, Indian automotive industry (including component manufacturing) is expected to reach US$ 251.4-282.8 billion by 2026. This in turn is expected to accelerate the growth of the Isoprene Monomer Market, especially in the Asia Pacific. However, isoprene is carcinogenic to humans, and due its high flammable property, isoprene monomer is classified as hazardous under the globally Harmonized System on Classification and Labeling (GHS). This in turn is expected to hamper the isoprene monomer market growth.
