Vegetable Parchment Paper; a Grease Proof Paper Widely Used In Baking and Cooking
Vegetable Parchment Paper, also known as vegetable parchment or parchment paper, is a grease resistant sheet widely used for cheese wrapping, food wrapping, butter & margarine packaging. It is a hard transparent paper usually made of either cotton fibers or chemical cellulose wood pulp. The fiber sheet is mechanically processed by soaking in a solution of sodium hydroxide or zinc oxide to make a translucent paper having a semi-translucent gloss. Vegetable parchment paper is quite absorbent and has wet strength properties.
Parchment papers are resistant to grease and moisture, and thus, they are used for various purposes such as wrapping of food items, reheating, roasting, and baking. It can be obtained in the form of rolls, precut rounds, and sheets. Vegetable Parchment Paper are manufactured by passing parchment paper, using the parchmentizing technique, through sulfuric acid or zinc chloride, resulting in the bulging of parchment fibers, which makes the paper grease-resistant, transparent, and dense, with excellent wet-strength properties.
Moreover, Vegetable Parchment Paper are manufactured by using unbleached grease resistant paper, which delivers the paper high density, non-sticky, odorless, excellent waterproof, and fat resistant properties. Furthermore, parchment papers meet all the regulatory compliances, such as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals, and thus, it is widely used by individuals, caterers, restaurants, and bakeries. Thus, there is a growing demand for vegetable parchment paper from the food industry, as these papers do not contain nitrogen.
Thus, it is less susceptible to attacks of insects, which makes it an excellent choice for baking and wrapping of food items. According to the U.S. Dairy Export Council, the global bakery market is expected to achieve a CAGR of 1.8% from 2015 to 2020. Moreover, in November 2018, Ahlstrom-Munksjö increased parchment paper production capacity and inaugurates a new production line to meet increasing demand of vegetable parchment products, such as cooking papers, baking papers, and food packaging.
