Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries; Widely Used In All Sizes of Motorcycles
Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries, also called as sealed lead-acid battery, is a kind of rechargeable lead acid battery characterized by a low level of electrolytes absorbed into a metallic plate separator. (VRLA) batteries are used as a main storage energy due to its unique properties such as low maintenance cost, safety profile, elimination of gassing, and high power density. Valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries are also used for power applications that depend on cells, including portable electrical devices and other applications that require large-scale, low-cost power storage and off-grid power systems.
There as two types of Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries, such as the Gelled Electrolyte (Gel) and Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM). VRLA batteries always include a safety pressure relief valve. The VRLA cannot spill its electrolyte if it is inverted as opposed to vented (also called flooded) batteries. The VRLA, including AGM and Gel battery designs, can be substituted in virtually any flooded lead-acid battery application in conjunction with well-regulated charging. Valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries use a one-way, pressure-relief valve system to achieve a recombinant technology.
A Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries battery has its advantages and disadvantages like all other rechargeable batteries. It allows for the reuse of used power which cuts down on the total cost of operation. It also has a very long life span compared to other types of batteries. Its most important feature of being sealed prevents the loss of vapor energy during the discharge of the battery. Its superior cycling performance and high capacity efficiency make it one of the most cost-effective batteries. Due to this, there is an increasing demand for valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries form the automotive industry, especially in two wheelers.
In Japan, Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries have been on the market for automotive applications for more than ten years. Initially, the VRLA batteries were used only for a small-size motorcycle. However, today, they are widely employed in all sizes of motorcycles.
