Emergence of Covid-19 and High Demand for Healthy Alternatives to Alcoholic Beverages to Boost Demand for Still Drinks
Still Drinks are nonalcoholic, noncarbonated beverages that include, coffees, enhanced waters, flavored waters, juices, teas, and other such drinks. For many years, nonalcoholic beverages have been recognized as legal alternatives to alcohol. These beverages can be consumed by anyone, of any age, of any race and of any gender.
The term Still Drinks gained wide recognition during the early 1960s as more people became aware that alcoholic beverages often had unpleasant side effects. Nonalcoholic beverages without carbonation have gained popularity. Shops and restaurants now offer nonalcoholic versions of their popular brands, like Smirnoff Ice or Long Island Iced Tea. Some nonalcoholic beverages are also made with organic fruits, which is becoming more common as consumers become more aware of the dangers of drinking alcohol.
Coffee is one of the most widely consumed still drinks. It has a stimulating effect due to the presence of caffeine in the drink. Drinking coffee has demonstrated reduction in the risk of some diseases. The demand for enhanced waters, flavored waters, juices, and teas has increased with the emergence of Covid-19. Bottled water is considered as the ultimate health drink among consumers and witnessed high demand during the first half of 2020. Other nonalcoholic beverages include, juices made from fruits like raspberry, watermelon, mango, and coconut.
Exotic fruits like acerola and dragon fruit are also being used to make juices. Fermented beverages such as kombucha, drinking vinegars, and other probiotic-enhanced drinks are also in high demand. Consumer demand for healthy alternatives has also given rise to other still drinks that include ‘superfruit’ juice drinks, enriched waters, and dairy and soy juice blends.
A major issue with still drinks such as juices is sugar content. Many health experts believe that the sugar in nonalcoholic beverages has an adverse effect on the body. Some people also suffer from allergic reactions to nonalcoholic beverages. This is especially true with some fruit juices that contain sugar. Also, nonalcoholic beverages often contain high levels of natural sugars. High levels of natural sugar can cause one's blood sugar level to rise, causing a potentially dangerous situation.
The lack of alcohol in Still Drinks can limit its demand among people preferring alcoholic beverages. One of the main issues for nonalcoholic beverage drinkers is that nonalcoholic beverages lack the taste that alcohol brings. Without the alcohol, the nonalcoholic beverage does not provide the same pleasant, enjoyable experience that alcohol allows.
However, with more and more consumers focusing on health, nutrition, and clean labels, the demand for still drinks is expected to increase within the beverage industry. Functional beverages are also in high demand among consumers, as these beverages offer various benefits such as immune health and vitamin support. Functional beverages also promote overall well-being.
Increasing plastic bottles pollution has led still drinks manufacturers to focus on sustainable packaging solutions. Many brands of enhanced waters have started using aluminum can that are durable and recyclable. Ocean-bound plastic can also be a viable packaging solution.
